Gel batteries belong to a development classification of lead-acid batteries. The method is to add a gelling agent to sulfuric acid to make the sulfuric acid electro-liquid into a colloidal state. Batteries in which the electrolyte is in a gel state are usually called gel batteries.

The gel battery is an improvement of the ordinary lead-acid battery with liquid electrolytes. It replaces the sulfuric acid electrolyte with the colloidal electrolyte, which is better than ordinary batteries in terms of safety, storage capacity, discharge performance, and service life.

UPS is called uninterruptible power supply because it can quickly switch to an inverter state during a power outage, so that a computer in use doesn't lose important files to storage because of a sudden power outage. It's not for backup power.

GEL battery, also called colloidal sealed lead battery, belongs to one of (two kinds) of VRLA battery, using a colloidal electrolyte, namely GEL technology, represented by Deutsche Sunshine. Another VRLA battery using AGM partition, AGM technology, is represented by some companies in Japan.
